I have been a driving instructor for a number of years now and it was my experience teaching family members to drive that led me to becoming a driving instructor. After taking my daughter for a professional lesson I was approached by the driving school to join their team where my passion for instructing began. Working in Melbourne with Yahoo, a 5 star rating business, gave me the chance to meet a variety of fantastic people, make friends along the way and bring that passion and expertise to our own driving school in Cairns.
My goal has always been to teach my students (no matter what age) everything they need to become a safe and confident driver with the skills to take with them for the rest of their life. I understand the anxiety and nervousness that students sometimes have the first few times behind a wheel, and the difficult but wonderful job parents and partners undertake helping their son/daughter or partner in getting the hours required. Its not always easy and sometimes its just our job to ‘clean up any bad habits’ ready for their assessment.
Every lesson should be different so as much experience as possible can be gained from every minute, helping to learn better and safe driver habits. I also love to practice everyday driving tasks such as parking at local shopping centres, as well as the driver assessment requirements which are really just tasks we may use in our normal driving day. Driving can be challenging and by learning the skills with myself or Trevor in a safe environment , I believe will help our learner drivers to be more confident before experiencing it on their own.

My working background was in engineering and 3D printers, where my job led me to travel all over Australia and dealing with all sorts of people, as well as a number of Universities. In my personal life I’ve been a bit of a dare devil and water skiied around Australia, dabbled in Hang Gliding, Trikes and Gliders and eventually into Karting. Although my sports had an element of danger to them, they taught me that safety, being aware of all dangerous possibilities and the unexpected were of upmost priority if I was going to live a long and healthy life. These were foreseen dangers and I believe are nothing compared to the dangers of travelling on today’s past paced roads.
In the past I’ve trained staff and student’s in the use of 3D printers, students in learning to fly Trikes (powered hang gliders) and mentored many young people in karting. Seeing Linda’s enthusiasm for instructing and the ‘buzz’ she got from seeing a nervous or anxious student finally achieving their dream of getting a licence and being a safe and confident driver made me decide to obtain my driver instructors license too. I believe my previous training, and vast driving experiences in all conditions and parts of Australia are a benefit to teaching young, old or just out of practice students. I don’t believe lessons should be boring, or just driving up and down straight roads, but full of practical and useful skills used in everyday situations.
